The Mayhem Range consists of three noble varieties of grape, Riesling, Chardonnay and Shiraz, the grapes sourced from growers who are considered industry leaders utilising natural, sustainable farming methods through innovation and with unwavering attention to vineyard best practice. The small batches of premium single vineyard fruit we receive into the winery are very vineyard expressive and anchored to a specific period of time and place, which makes us very excited as we can then craft unique and interesting wines exuding charm and character for the more sophisticated wine consumer and restaurateur.
Small Berries Shiraz 2012 represents the best of Blewitt Springs/Mclaren Vale fruit from the super premium dry grown, bio-dynamic Springs Hill Vineyard, seductive purple colouring, a passionate dark-berry wine, overflowing with scents of brambles, black currants, cloves and allspice. On the palate the wine’s dark-fruit flavours are elegantly balanced, not full bodied and over ripe but more Syrah in style with a softer and lighter mouth feel succulent against a structured, backbone. This outstanding wine gracefully marries strength with refinement. Drink now, or put some away for a very long time but best consumed the day after you open a bottle.
B & W Chardonnay 2012 comes from the beautiful quartz laced Bowyer Ridge vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. This is an elegant wine, slight hints of butterscotch and ripe pear aromas. The wine has been fermented in 30% new barriques for 12 months to craft a beautifully integrated example of traditional, oaked chardonnay. On the palate the wine tastes of lime leading into hints of peaches and cream, with the lingering crisp snap of cool-climate acidity. This wine is a stunning example of terroir-meets-craftsmanship.
Hipster Riesling 2013 a step back in time but this time with class and elegance, a single, cool-climate Eden Valley vineyard, this wine has been fermented to complete dryness. On the nose it evokes newly ripe lemons and a bouquet of lavender and apple blossoms. On the palate, a lush mouth feel of ripe pears, hints of pineapples, and splashes of honeycomb supported on a solid bed of acid integrated beautifully with months spent on lees. This wine will develop gracefully in the bottle for many years to come.
